I don't usually talk politics. I don't usually talk 'religion'. I talk faith. I don't usually debate much anymore because my mind cannot recall my facts or think fast enough. Here I can process at least on some level and express myself. I will try to keep it simple so I don't confuse myself even though there are several levels going through my mind. First: I believe God is Sovereign. I believe He created the earth and man is to rule over it. Second: On it we have many government levels and religions occupying. Do I believe God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit is the Supreme, Yes. However based on my faith and God's extension of free will in my life I also believe others are given free will. This does not make them right but it does not make it right for me to impose my own personal beliefs on them. Third: Regarding the constitution; we cannot legislate morality nor do I believe the constitution was built on Christianity. I believe it was built on the freedom to pursue what faith I believe whether it be Quaker, Protestant, Baptist, Muslim, Jehovah Witness, Jewish, Mormons, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Scientology.... all or any that among these people may call heresy. This is not the point. The point is these people are FREE to be IN their faith without persecution. The Constitution cannot be claimed by anyone of these faiths except to say it allows them the freedom to pursue their worship. According to the principles of my faith I believe it is my calling to 'win' followers to my Lord but it is Him calling them. I am His witness. Further there is the separation between Church and the state. We can't have it both ways. If we want the Government to stay out of our business and stay exempt from them, then we cannot be playing politics with our religion. We will and can be persecuted for our faith and our beliefs because they will be in contrast to the laws and the 'norms' of the land. We cannot legalize morality nor is everything that is legal moral. Everything that is legal is not ethical and yet on more than one occasion I have taken heat in the work place because I see unethical behavior and practices everywhere. Is it my faith that makes me more ethical? I've met like minded people without faith. If we try to legalize 'morality' by virtue of say Christianity -- and I do not believe peodophiles and rapists are in the category of GLBT individuals because they are NOT ADULT MUTUAL AGREEABLE relationships, then I believe we start becoming the nation the Constitution was formed to prevent. This is not saying I don't believe in Christianity or the ultimate rule of God. On the social scale there are those who are very upset over the high courts decision and yet what I see more insidious eating away at our society is the way we go on in our own little worlds that are getting smaller and smaller.... the drug addict groups keep growing -- the gang wars continue-- cops keep getting shot because our families are becoming more isolated and separated with less supporting staff around them-- poverty is rising-- there are LOTS of churches out there that are more about loving each other within their church and criticizing and ostracizing the outsider than getting to know them as people (this is a blanket statement- not true of all churches I am sure) Young people have no where to go and I can tell you from my time in ST Louis when we opened the church gym, they came in to play basketball. We cry aloud because the courts handed down a decision we don't like and say America turned a corner....it turned a corner a long time ago when it stopped looking at its neighbor as its brother or sister or mother or father so we all had someone to turn to. America turned a corner when neighbors stopped knowing neighbors--children stopped caring about their parents, parents put earning money ahead of earning a living and stopped spending time with their children -- living beyond their means-- America turned the corner a long time ago and the way you win it back is on the corner. Who lives on your corner? |
